Bill4Time at LegalTech New York: A Recap of the Most Pertinent Questions We Received From Lawyers Who Stopped By Our Booth

Bill4Time is the Web-based time and billing (plus case management) application that many of your fellow subscribers have adopted since TechnoLawyer first reported on it last year.

The recent LegalTech conference in New York City afforded us an opportunity to field lots of questions from people like you — lawyers and law firm administrators seeking a time and billing solution. Therefore, we thought we'd share the most pertinent inquiries we received. With all apologies to Henny Youngman ...

TAKE MY UPGRADES, PLEASE ...

One lawyer who visited our booth expressed frustration with his billing software circa 1998, telling us he felt like he was in the "dark ages."

I asked him why he never upgraded. He feared the upgrade treadmill — both the cost and glitches, especially lost data.

Being Web-based, Bill4Time reverses the traditional upgrade process. We continually update the software on our end. You do not need to do anything on your end, except of course take advantage of the new features we add every month — most recently integration with QuickBooks. These new features have no additional costs associated with them.

TAKE MY PAPER, PLEASE ...

A lawyer and an IT manager wanted their firm to go paperless. The lawyer in particular was tired of storing documents in his pricey office space. I told him that he could upload an unlimited number of files into his Bill4Time account and associate each file with a client or a specific matter. This firm is now a Bill4Time customer!

TAKE MY DESK, PLEASE ...

Several lawyers asked how Bill4Time could help them "break the chains" of being tied to their desk. They loved the idea of logging in from any PC or Mac, or from their BlackBerry or Treo using Bill4Time Mobile, or from their iPhone using Safari.

Bill4Time Mobile, which I demonstrated on my Blackberry, worked flawlessly. I entered "Spoke with John at the exhibit booth", and then immediately showed that entry as received by the Bill4Time system.

TAKE MY DATA, PLEASE ...

Lots of people asked questions about access to Bill4Time. "What if the Internet goes down in my office?" When we discussed this issue, they realized that their Internet service was far more reliable than their own network. Some couldn't recall an Internet outage in recent years. Others said that such outages were short-lived, measured in minutes or hours at most. On the other hand, we heard lots of horror stories about complex server upgrades gone awry, resulting in lost access to locally-installed time and billing software.

If your firm has reliable Internet access, you certainly need not worry about our end of the equation. Bill4Time's servers are located in secure facilities with several layers of redundancy. Also, if you do experience at outage at your office, you can access Bill4Time on your BlackBerry, Treo, iPhone, EVDO/HSDPA-equipped laptop, or home computer as noted above.

TAKE MY QUESTIONS, PLEASE ...

Many attendees using a time billing solution they didn't necessarily like were nonetheless concerned about the costs involved "getting to know" a new system because of the extensive (and expensive!) support costs associated with their current solutions.

Bill4Time never charges a penny for support. All of our support personnel works here in the U.S. We provide support via phone, email and live chat. How can we do this? Bill4Time is so easy to use, with clear documentation (both English and Spanish), that most of our customers never need our help. Of course, if you do have any questions, we are here to help — free of charge!

TAKE MY ADVICE, PLEASE ... AND TRY BILL4TIME FOR FREE
