Many law firms take advantage of temporary
knowledge workers. For example, you might use contract attorneys and
paralegals for a document review, or hire one or more law students
during the summer or the school year.
Using temporary personnel provides a tremendous savings with regard
to payroll taxes, benefits, etc. But by the same token you've
probably run into these three problems:
1. Software Licenses: If you want your
contract lawyers to use your billing software to record their time,
you have to shell out for additional licenses. When they stop
working for you, those licenses go unused. Plus if they work from
home, installation can be tricky.
2. Oversight: You need to manage temporary
personnel more closely than your full-time personnel to ensure
quality work, and spot potential problems early before they spiral
out of control. By the time you see a WIP report, it might be too
late.
3. Confidentiality: Obviously, the
attorney-client privilege certainly applies in the case of contract
attorneys. But what about your firm's
confidentiality? You don't necessarily want to give these people
unfettered access to your billing rates, client records, etc. You
just want to give them the access they need to get their work done
and nothing more.
BILL4TIME SOLVES ALL OF THESE PROBLEMS ...
Bill4Time is the Web-based billing application that many
TechnoLawyer subscribers have adopted since Dennis Kennedy covered
it earlier this year in the TechnoLawyer NewsWire
newsletter.
Bill4Time solves all of the above problems as follows:
1. Software Licenses: With Bill4Time, you
won't have unused licenses lying around collecting dust. Instead,
using your Web browser, you can add new users and activate or
deactivate users as needed. You only pay for active users on a
prorated basis.
For example, suppose two contract attorneys start working for you in
the middle of the month. You would create accounts for them so they
could record their time. You would only pay half the monthly
subscription price for those two accounts that month. When they
complete the project, you would deactivate their accounts and no
longer pay anything. If they ever worked for you again, you could
reactivate their accounts.
2. Oversight: With Bill4Time, you can
"subscribe" to matters. Once you do, you receive email alerts for
that matter — when someone posts their time, completes a task, etc.
These alerts provide an early warning system for potential problems.
Plus it's nice to stay on top of a matter anywhere you have email
access.
3. Confidentiality: When you create a user
account in Bill4Time, you can limit access however you see fit. For
example, you can limit a person to one matter, prevent them from
seeing their billing rate, not allow them to create new matters or
generate bills, etc.
TRY BILL4TIME FOR FREE (PLUS NO SOFTWARE TO INSTALL) ..
Because Bill4Time works in your Web browser, there's no software to
install. So if you find it's not your cup of tea, there's no
software to uninstall.
Try Bill4Time now free of charge for 30 days.
And best wishes for an enjoyable holiday season.
